First Trailer The Amazing Spider-Man

Comic Con is the best source for all things superhero and this time around they've unveiled the new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the reboot of the titanic Marvel franchise helmed by Marc Webb. This looks just wow!

The Amazing Spider-Man drops on July 3, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Denis Leary as George Stacy, Irrfan Khan as Nels Van Adder/Proto-Goblin, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May.

This is more of an origin story and delves back into Peter's childhood. We see Campbell Scott as Richard Parker and Embeth Davidtz as Mary Parker. I am psyched for this and I thought I would not be because I was initially ticked that they were taking Spider-Man back to his Teeny-bopper dreamboat days. However, from the looks of this, it's dark and edgy like a certain other superhero reboot.

What do you think? Talk to me.

Totally agree Mel!

Based on the trailer it looks like this is the Spider-Man movie that we've been waiting for since the original one.

I love the idea that it's a little closer to the comic, a little darker, and that there appears to be a story with Peter's parents.

Really looking forward to this one!

Bring on 2012!

You summed it up in two letters, with one repeating - Wow! I find reboots weird, especially when the fourth movie reboots and the entire series was out in the last decade. But this looks pretty good. I have to admit to a certain weariness at having to sit through the origin again, but maybe that will be kept to a tight first third. I also wonder if these filmmakers will be able to do the one thing Raimi absolutely could not - can these guys PLEASE keep Spidey's mask on for an entire battle scene instead of finding any excuse whatsoever to remove it(ripped off, flaming debris ignites it, it got caught on a nail, whatever) so they can show the oh-so-expressive puppy dog eyes of the actor who's not really performing the action anyway? 73% of all New Yorkers got a look at Peter Parker's face at some point in the first three movies. Seems to me - you want to make a movie about a hero who wears a face covering mask - then suck it up, film boy! You don't get to show your actor's face until he chooses to take off the outfit, which wouldn't be in the middle of a fight or during a heroic rescue. Sorry. (This same rant goes out to the makers of the first Judge Dredd movie - which I didn't hate, but which did annoy me when it allowed the never-seen-in-the-comics face of Dredd to be shown.)

Hm, that was lengthy. Did I mention I liked this trailer?

It's looking good. I really do hope that they keep to the 'darker' image for this reboot. I can't wait to see Ifans as The Lizard too :D

I think I'm the only one who didn't like the trailer. It just looked boring to me and I just don't see the appeal of young Garfield. He looks to me like a male version of Keira Knightley :)

Still not sure yet. It does look like they're going for a darker feel, like they did with Batman. Could work!

I loved it and hated it at the same time. It looked darker and edgier, but the second half of the trailer was so video game-like, it drove me mad.

@Stoic I, too, love the idea that it is darker and closer to the comic. It should be a whole new direction for the franchise. And I'm really dying to see The Lizard.

@Craig LOL I hear you. It did annoy me that Tobey could not seem to keep the mask on. I mean, who bought him as Peter Parker, nerd photographer with his mug showing everywhere? I don't recall much of the first Dredd film, except that Sly Stallone was the star. Looking forward to seeing what Karl Urban does as I really like him. Maybe he'll keep his identity secret. Glad you liked this. ;)

@Jamie Ifans should rock! I cannot wait to see him in costume. Having Lizard as the villain was a great decision on their part, I think.

@Dez LOL "male version of Keira Knightly." You do have a way with description. ;)

@Alex I do love this darker feel and the not-so-nerdy persona they've given to Peter. I hope this succeeds as I love Spider-Man.

@Nebular LOL! It was a bit video game like, but I kind of liked it. Especially the landing on the glass building. I didn't like the running part, though. Reminded me of the end of Doom.

I love Comic Con! I gotta catch up on it to see what major developments are on the horizon. I already read somewhere that the premier of Abrams' new Show, Alcatraz, was met with tremendous positive buzz.

I'm cautiously optimistic for The Amazing Spider-Man. The cast is stellar and Marc Webb is an interesting choice for director. But I'm very dubious, as you know, of the rampant remake phenomenon, esp. with regard to the superhero genre. I hope my admittedly low expectations are proven futile. I harbor skepticism only because I appreciate what Sam Raimi did for the comic book and the genre. Spider-Man I and II were magnificent!

@Matt I have heard that Alcatraz looks wicked cool so I'm on board. I hope to get there maybe next year or the year after.

I had very low expectations for Spider-Man ever since I heard about it. My first question was why? However, this trailer has impressed me enough so that I am interested to see where this goes. I like that the villain is The Lizard.

I'm quite impressed by the final scene of the trailer. And it looks like the film will take on a noticeably different tone from the previous trilogy, and presents itself in a similar fashion to what Christopher Nolan did with "Batman Begins". Looking forward to the performances of Emma "Gwen Stacy" Stone as well. :)

@Jaccstev I was impressed by this trailer as well. I love the darker tone they appear to be taking. I am also looking forward to Emma Stone and am glad they went with Gwen Stacy rather than Mary Jane. again.
