Not having much love for animation, and it certainly not being my choice of genre, my partner dragged me kicking and screaming to the nearest Odeon to watch this. And what’s more, I’m paying the premiere 3D ticket price for the both of us!…….Who’s distributing these 3D specs?…..DIOR?!
So I finally let all the bats free out of my wallet in an attempt to cheer myself up with a combo of nachos with extra cheese sauce to keep myself occupied while my better half (beginning to wonder) enjoys something ‘he thinks’ I’ll love.
Do you know what’s worse than paying for a movie you never wanted to see in the first place? Having your partner saying ‘I told you so’ all the way home!
Here’s the Synopsis…..
Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) lives in a happy suburban neighbourhood surrounded by white picket fences, flowering rose bushes and gorgeous houses. Little can be said for his own residency. A black house with a dead lawn and accompanied by an army of minions Gru is planning the heist of the century…stealing the moon! While he plots his heist and revelling in all things wicked he encounters three little orphaned girls who see something in him no one else does, A potential Dad!
The world’s greatest enemy now faces his greatest challenge in the ultra cute form of Margo, Edith and Agnes.
Cast Voices: Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russel Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher
Directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud
The 411.…
Although a slow start, once the movie gathers its pace its nothing short of hugely entertaining, and I don’t mean just for the kiddies!
It’s hoakey slapstick comedy, and it’s larger than life characters amongst an extremely wacky plot had me laughing so hard I was regretting drinking so much fizz. Steve Carell puts great energy into a character that blooms throughout the feature presentation, and as for the other characters:- a lot of cute, a lot of baddies and certainly a lot of fun.
While many will no doubt try to compare it to a Pixar mega-screening, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment deliver a pretty good computer-animated comedy that stands on its own two feet, especially being Universals first CGI production.
The rest of the cast bring some superb fun and charisma to their characters, Russell Brand as Dr Neferio being my favourite, an elderly hearing impaired assistant to Gru who is just knockout funny!
The younger generation will definitely enjoy this movie, no extreme violence or language to really get any parents worried, however I will warn you that adoption is played in a very negative light which may concern some parents of adopted children as well as adopted children themselves.
Overall, this presentation will warm a lot of hearts for every member of the family.

I loved this movie, too. Couldn't stop laughing and probably missed some stuff I'll have to check out on the DVD release.
Haven't watched it yet, but I loved the trailers. Those little yellow creatures are so adorable. Planning to watch it in 3D. Great review!
Is this a new movie? Never heard about this movie before. Never heard about all the cast voice too.
I didn't see it in 3-D, but it was still hilarious. I put it in the top five movies this year so far.
Haven't expected much from this movie but reviews so far were very very good.
ha ha, I know what its like to have your partner saying 'I told you so' all the time. Very funny intro to your review. Really loved this movie myself. Really good review!
Not bad. This garnered 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, a service I have come to trust when wanting to commit myself to shelling out my hard earned dollars.

But the other question is whether 3D is going to improve our movie going experience?

I appreciate your comments, but please don't use my comment form as a place to display all your blogpost links! Your user name links right to you blog account and if people would like to check you out they will. The link about your review of dispicable me is fine as it relates to the post.
Again thank you for your comments as they are appreciated.
this was a lovely review, Dempsey. I especially liked the point on the film not having violent scenes and the whole passage you wrote around it.
Is your partner paying for the next trip to cinema? :)
re: Dezmond
Thanks for your comment Dezmond. In regards to my partner paying for the next trip to the odeon, yes I think its about time ha ha ha
make him suffer with some charming choice of movie :)
ha ha, oh i will take him to a horror, he hates them, sends the whole time with his hands over his eyes lol!
or maybe you should just be practical and take him to a romantic movie so that he would spend the whole time with his hands over you :PPP
PS, Thanks for including me into your nominations! Much obliged.
ha ha, he'd probably slap me! Your welcome about the nominations although I can't really take credit as you were nominated by others. I did put you forward though lol
I still haven't seen this movie, but I'd like too. Thanks for the review. Glad you had a good time after all. =D
Oh wow... I'd heard such awful things about this film that I wasn't going to go watch it but after this review, I think I just might. Cheers!
I'm thinking about conducting a reverse cell phone look up by going on the internet. I am having these phone calls by someone that I really don't know and am concerned who they think they are calling. All types of crazy texts and also messages are being left on my voice mail and it's beginning to drive me mad. And so, where should i locate these reverse cell research services?

Worst: A Nightmare on Elm Street
