Top Ten Countdown Music Blogfest!!

The one and only Alex J Cavanaugh with his self titled blog, has organised a brilliant music blogfest where fellow bloggers countdown their favourite tunes of all time. 110 blogs have entered to list their music choices, so after reading our list, why not visit the other official entries all displayed over at Alex’s place here.

But before I begin this post, may I just first apologise for my absence over the last two weeks due to not being well. I’m not out of the woods yet, but feel so much better, and also want to thank everyone for their very kind messages and e-mails, also wanting to thank Christian James for taking care of the Movie411 since I was gone, you’re a star CJ!.

I will try my hardest to catch up with all my fellow readers and it’s nice to finally be able to post again.

So back to today’s post and my top ten favourite tunes and why…..

At number 10
Dirty Diana by Michael Jackson

Why?- I remember when I was a lot younger thinking that Michael Jackson was an absolute god, I used to love all his music but when I watched his live performance of Dirty Diana I was captivated by the music video for months, how the fans were in a frenzy over him, how much effort he put into the performance and finally just how great the song was. I used to dress up like MJ and perform this as a young boy. It still remains one of my favourite songs today which holds a lot of memories.

9. Ocean Sized Love by Leigh Nash

Why?- It’s a great love song which was sent to me by my partner at the time who still remains a great friend. We lived miles away from each other and the song was very appropriate to us. Every time I hear it I am reminded how hard it was for us to be apart and all the good times that we shared.

8. Livin’ On A Prayer - Bon Jovi

One of the greatest rock anthems of all time, Livin’ On A Prayer reminds me of my youth, and still to this day when it is played never fails to get people on the dance floor in a club singing along. The song is timeless and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this appear on many peoples list.

7. Crash And Burn - Savage Garden

In my early teens I had become a huge fan of this band. I loved every single song they had come out with, and still feel that lead singer Darren Hayes is very understated. He along with the rest of the band are great songwriters and performers. Crash and Burn was my favourite tune they had released, and though Hayes went solo, I am always hoping they will reform one day.

6. Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams

Is there anyone that doesn’t like this song? My fondest memory of this song was when I was in a band for a school production and we changed 69 to 89 to accommodate our age. We came second in the music contest, and still when I here the song I imagine me and our band performing it at school.

5. Lips Of An Angel - Hinder

In my rebellious late teen years, the band hinder became my idols. Lips Of an Angel being my favourite out of all of their songs. It was also a favourite of one of my best friends who sadly died at a very young age. When I hear this, I am always reminded of her and the great times we had, she was my angel!

4. Thriller - Michael Jackson

Making it into my list for a second time is MJ with thriller. The song and the album still hold many records to date, and the music video for thriller is something I’m sure everyone in the world would have seen. When this is played in a club I love to take a look around and see how many people are imitating MJ’s thriller moves on the dance floor. Though we sadly lost MJ 2 years ago, I think this will be his most remembered tune, and is one of my favourites from him.

3. Sweet Child Of Mine - Guns and Roses

When I here Sweet Child Of Mine it always makes me happy, I love love love this tune. You can’t beat the classics and this is certainly one of them. Though I have heard many other artists rendition of this song, they never amount to how good Guns and Roses did it.

2. Cherry Oh Baby - UB40

Nearly making it to number one but not quite is UB40 with Cherry Oh Baby. I was brought up on UB40, and as I used to live in the same street as the lead singer (Ali Campbell) in Birmingham, before they hit the big time. Cherry Oh Baby is again a favourite from my youth and still like to play it to this day.

1. I Drove All Night - Roy Orbison

Well if my taste is very eclectic so sue me ha ha, but this is my all time favourite classic, they just don’t do songs like this anymore. Roy Orbison is such an amazing talent. I love many of his songs though I Drove all Night has to be my favourite.

The song itself has had two good renditions performed by Cyndi Lauper and the unquestionable talent of Celine Dion. Though Celine’s take of the song rocks also, I still favour the original.

So there you have it, my top ten songs off all time. Please do visit Alex J Cavanaugh’s blog to see his and all the other entries in the music blogfest. I personally thank Alex for inviting me to do this, brought back some great memories as I was playing each song when doing the list.

Thanks for participating Dempsey, and hope you're feeling better. VH1 proclaimed Living on a Prayer as THE song of the 80's!

Excellent list, Dempsey. I have Sweet Child on mine too! Also, I got the Michael Jackson Experience for my Wii and have been listening (and copying his dance moves) a few times a week for exercise! It's so fun!

Cool countdown! I know all these songs and like 'em all. "Summer of 69" is one of my go-to workout jams and they always play "Livin' on a Prayer" at the club! "Thriller" is epic. And my buddy does a sick rendition of "Lips of An Angel." Good stuff here!

First of all, I love you for having Savage Garden in your list, it tells so much about you ;)
And second of all I ADORE you for having I DROVE ALL NIGHT in your number one spot, because, believe it or not, it's my number one favourite song of all times too! But I love it most in Cyndi's version, although I love Roy's version and Celine's version too. Love the melody, the lyrics, the whole plot in the songs ... the most romantic song ever!
With APOLOGIZE from ONE REPUBLIC, my all time favourite song ever.

Love, that you're back, Dempsey!

That's quite the list you've got there. I really like the Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams mention. "Summer of 69" is a great tune.
I thought about listing "Sweet Child o' Mine", but it didn't quite make my cut. Stll great, however. I'm about sick of "Welcome to the Jungle", but "Child..." never gets old.
